Is the south west rail network fit for the 21 century?  Can we be sure that rail resilience projects like the Dawlish sea wall and Cowley Bridge Junction will go ahead?   Do we need a diversionary route to Plymouth via Okehampton?  Will rail investment in the South West keep pace with the demand for rail travel?

There could not be a better person than Richard, who is a member of our club, to talk about these issues. His father had been Station Master at Okehampton, and Richard began as a fireman on steam trains at the age of 15.    He went on to take charge of inter-city trains running from Paddington to Cornwall in a career which spanned more than 40 years. In recent years he has been a councillor on Devon County Council. In 2010 he was awarded an MBE for his services to public transport and the community in Devon.
