Our speaker is Kevin Gaston, who is professor of biodiversity and conservation at the University of Exeter. He has a first degree in zoology from Sheffield and a PhD in biology from York. From 2010 to 2017 he was Director of the university’s Environment and Sustainability Institute, which is based on the Penryn campus.
He now leads a research team investigating the relationships between people and nature – the effects of people on nature and the effects of nature on people – and how nature can be renewed following the enormous losses that have been caused.
Working in collaboration with the National Trust, his team has recently obtained funding of £10 million from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) for a project (called ReNew) to investigate and tackle biodiversity.
